Clinical Resources

The following clinical resources developed by Dr. Schechinger and/or the APA Division 44 Consensual Non-monogamy Task Force:

  • Sample Language for Assessing Relationship Style on Demographic Forms - One of the first steps to providing culturally competent care is amending client-history and intake forms to assure that they are inclusive toward marginalized populations, including those engaged in consensual non-monogamy (CNM). An increasing number of mental and medical health centers are taking this step, including all 10 University of California counseling centers. These sample questions were created by Dr. Schechinger and members of the CNM Task Force.

  • Consensual Non-monogamy Inclusive Practices Tool - A benchmarking tool created by Dr. Schechinger to highlight inclusive clinical practices and policies related to people engaged in CNM.

  • APA Division 44 CNM Task Force Initiatives - This is a list of the current initiatives of the Task Force.

  • CNM Literature List - A a list of indexed and organized peer-reviewed CNM articles for researchers and educators.

  • Kenneth R. Haslam Collection on Polyamory - A resource with historic polyamory artifacts that can be reviewed by researchers, educators, and the public.

  • CNM Support Survey - A survey by the APA Division 44 CNM Task Force where you can express support for various relationship diversity issues and sign up for the CNM Task Force mailing list.


  • APA Division 44 Consensual Non-monogamy Task Force: An organization dedicated to generating research, creating resources, and advocating for the inclusion of consensual non-monogamous relationships in basic and applied research, education and training, psychological practice, and public interest.

  • National Coalition of Sexual Freedom: NCSF is committed to creating a political, legal, and social environment in the US that advances equal rights for consenting adults who engage in alternative sexual and relationship expressions. They advance the rights of, and advocate for consenting adults in the BDSM-Leather-Fetish, Swing, and Polyamory Communities through direct services, education, advocacy, and outreach, in conjunction with their partners, to directly benefit these communities.

  • Loving More: is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, educational website, online community and magazine dedicated to the support and education of polyamory and polyamorous issues. Loving More also sponsors national conferences and does advocacy on behalf of the poly community.

  • More Than Two: A website with resources by Franklin Veaux, co-author of More Than Two.

  • Polyamory in the News:: A blog by Alan MacRobert with an archive of media related to polyamory.

  • Reddit Polyamory: A site used by the polyamory community to discuss issues, build community, offer/receive advice, or learn about topics being discussed.

  • Polyamory Book Recommendations by Cunning Minx: A list of books books about polyamory by Cunning Minx, host of the Polyamory Weekly podcast.

  • Forum: A forum website for the poly community to discuss issues, build community, offer/receive advice, or learn about topics being discussed.

  • Black & Poly: A community focussing on providing an eclectic, culturally rich environment where people can come together to socialize, learn, and share common interests related to polyamorous living.

  • Sex and Psychology: A website by Dr. Justin Lehmiller, social psychologist and Research Fellow at The Kinsey Institute.

  • Meg-John & Justin: A CNM-inclusive website with podcast episodes, zines, blog-posts, and videos sex and relationship advice, ideas, and education.

  • Asking for What You Want: A website with resources about polyamory, sexual communication, relationships, & women’s empowerment by sex educator, Marcia Baczinski.

  • Sex-Positive Psych: A website with resources by Dr. Liz Powell, author of Building Open Relationships.

  • Conscious PolyamoryA blog about polyamory emphasizing loving relationships, personal growth, and conscious evolution by Morgaine and Art (a.k.a. Wide Guy).

  • I’m Poly and So Can You: An advice column and CNM resources site by sex educator Andre Shakti.


  • Polyamory WeeklyA weekly podcast covering polyamory and ethical non-monogamy from a pansexual, kink-friendly point of view by Cunning Minx.

  • Multiamory: A podcast and blog offering new ideas and advice for multiple forms of love, from conscious monogamy to ethical polyamory and relationship anarchy by Emily, Dedeker, and Jase.

  • Pedestrian Polyamory: a show about polyamory and all of its glorious (and not so glorious) features by Shira B. Katz and Gavin Katz.

  • Death, Sex & Money: Death, Sex and Money is an interview-style podcast hosted by Anna Sale that discusses the big questions "often left out of polite conversation."

  • Loving Without Boundaries: A podcast offering interviews, lessons, and insights on the subjects of polyamory and ethical non-monogamy by Kitty Chambless, author of The Jealousy Survival Guide.

  • Alan’s List of Polyamory Events: A list of compiled polyamory-related conferences, workshops, and events across the world by Alan MacRobert, who runs the Polyamory in the Media blog.

  • Polyamory Facebook Group: A closed Facebook group with over 30,000 members.

  • The Monocorn Sanctuary: An online community for people who are the monoamorous or monogamous part of an ethically non-monogamous, open, or polyamorous relationship.
